‘Antisocial’ Socials

# Formally, ‘Socials’ is an event organised usually a week before ‘Rendezvous’ in each boys hostel of IIT Delhi. A bus from IIT goes to some girl’s college of Delhi and returns completely packed with ’super-hot’ bandis for party.

Earlier Socials was meant to happen for freshers of IIT (or Faccha) only. Those ‘facchas’ who have spent their last 2-3 years in rubbing their asses in front of Physics, chemistry and mathematics books and finally cleared one of the most prestigious exams of the world. Those facchas who don’t know that there exists some better ‘curves’ than parabolas and hyperbolas. And those who’d never tried to learn the chemistry of love. Every single faccha in the Aravali Hostel was eagerly waiting for it when one day our great Dean UG ~ Shri Shri S R Kale banned Socials for freshers. That means this fabulous opportunity transferred to our ‘Seniors’ only.

So on 15th of September, 2008 Monday, a large bus from IIT Delhi went to Miranda Girls House and returned with some beautiful Homo-Sapiens existing on this lovely planet. For the facts, there were about 60 of them and guess what, the number of boys going to the event were only 40. There set-up a tent in the Aravali lawn and a DJ in Ara Common Room. Since we ‘poor facchas’ were not allowed for the event, we were left only to peek through the windows, rooftops, gaps in the tents etc. etc. And as you’ve guessed, ‘despos’ like me didn’t leave a single opportunity to do that.

So in the evening when I went to mess for dinner at around 7:30, I realised girls have already come and the party has started. I peeked through the gap in the tent and saw something one rarely gets to see in IIT ~ bandis. Man….there were lots and lots of them. I won’t say that they were the best ones, but some of them were damn hot. Most of them had come in clothes I won’t like to mention here. Each girl had at least one-inch thick layer of make-up on her face and I was also able to sense the ’smell’ of their perfume from 30 feets away.

I felt a bump in my stomach and may be because of this reason I didn’t take my dinner properly. After completing my dinner, me, along with my another ‘despo’ friend – Kunal Goel went for the exploration. We roamed around the venue and looked for every possible location from where we can get a good view of anything. Finally we found the place. It was a narrow strip besides the TV Room on the first floor from where we were able to see the whole Aravali Lawn. This was the time when we got the complete, clarified and close look of the bandis. We focussed on the few ones who looked really great and also those who dressed really great. (Sometimes, both things do not belong to the same person.)

Gradually, some more despo crowd joined the league. More facchas came and saw the whole scene with a big frustration + question mark on their faces. We clicked few photographs from Kunal’s great N-73. The camera was good but since we were sitting very far away, so couldn’t get the clarity expected. Gradually few girls began to notice the light of the flash and realised that someone is staring them from above. One of them called a senior and complained. Therfore we had to runaway from there to save our asses.

Then we went to the window of the Ara Common Room where DJ was set-up. There was a Paper Dance competition going on. Those seniors who were good enough, got a bandi for the dance. In paper dance, you’ve to dance on the paper only. And the paper gets shorter and shorter after every song. This means, you know…well…you get closer and closer to the girl. I again felt a big bump in my stomach. My frustration level was on the peak. And it broke the limits when I saw Tau Sir, one of my senior, doing dance with a bandi. Those who have seen his dance know how ‘closely’ he did it. I guess there was no inch of both of them that was left untouched. The news spread in a nano-second throughout the hostel and attracted more and more crowd. Everyone was speaking about Tau Sir who had by now carried the girl above on his hands. I was astonished by the support, the bandi was giving to him.

Finally dinner started. We again moved to the first floor to watch the lawn. Most of them were transformed from ’single’ to ‘couple’ now. Some of them were hanging even with two girls. Yes, there were exceptions for both of the above cases, but that was rare.

I couldn’t bear anymore, so I decided to left. I saw faces of my mates filled with disappointments. Everyone asking the same question – “Why we??”

Now since the night(mare) is over, all of us are hoping that one day we’ll also become seniors and enjoy the pleasure we were deprived of. Till then, I am left to be a ‘despo’ again. ;)

PS — Sorry mates, can’t upload the pics as I’ve lost my data cable.

PS — And I am not keen to walk 1.5 kilometers to Munirka Market to purchase it.

PS — So to soothe your mood, here’s the song of the day : Mitwa Re from ‘Hello’ by Pritam

    @Abhinav Sarin
    You’re probably the first person to really understand all this. Yeah, most of us don’t care if the ’socials’ are banned. But why sacrificing the fun of talking about it!

    Vaise if you remember we’ve met already a few times. Hope to see you again soon…..! :P

  16. Next time, why dont you get hookers instead of college girls. Then you can have “bed dance” instead of paper dance!
