TWO BUCKETS OF WATER….

This is some serious issue. Don’t laugh out on this one please. :P

Water, the resource which is said to be the potential reason for another world war, is turning more and more precious. And once a thing starts becoming precious, it becomes a status symbol.

India, specially Madhya Pradesh, is facing this problem of water scarcity. So, this is what I think can happen in a few years, not only in India, but anywhere in the world. And mind it, the characters do not neccesarily belong to India. :P

………………………………………………………………………………..

” Bye Honey! Will be back at seven.”

“Honey, you are forgetting something.”

And Mr.Lambert moved towards his wife. NO! They didn’t kiss! THey had something much more important. Mrs. Lambert handed him two buckets.

“Get them filled so that we are free for a month atleast.”

…………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Mr.Lambert picks up the newspaper kept on his office desk. It read:

“…Government ready to bring up a law by which the filmmakers will not be able to show water in the film.”

“…the movie ‘WATER’ ’s CD’s and DVD’s will not be available until they change the title of the movie.”

“….government lowers pricesof water. Good news for the citizens, although at the time of elections, that the water would be availableat Rs. 50/litre, Rs 2/litre less.”

………………………………………………………………………………

Mr.Lambert goes back home with two buckets full of water as he promised. While on the move, he is stopped by a group of boys.

“Open the doors. QUICK!!” One of them ordered and showed a gun.

Mr.Lambert, horrified, quickly opened the door. The boys got in. They saw one wallet lying and two buckets full of water.

As expected they took away the buckets and left the wallet.

Mr.Lambert, dissapointed, went back to his home. Her wife waiting for him. She didn’t see the buckets.

“What happened dear?”

He explained everything.

“Don’t worry we will register F.I.R and we will get the water back soon and we can take buckets back by the insurance money.”

PS: we STILL write here.

PS: its just that it was too long.

Another year Older

I am 19.

I am 19.

# I am writing this post when I am due with 5 Graphic Science Tutorials, one CYL110 quiz, a CSL 101 assignment, a continuous 16 hours street play practice and a lunch and a breakfast I missed today.

I turned 19. A rare event for anyone because one can turn 19 only once in his/her life. But what made this ‘19′ was indeed more special?

# Was that a Chemistry Quiz which I screwed a little because I reached late at the venue?

# Was it due the 144 scraps, 51 SMS and a few special calls I got as birthday wishes?

# Or the night-out for street play practice?

# Or due to the effect of ‘chappals’ that were posted on my ass as birthday bumps?

# Or because it was my first birthday in IIT and outside home?

# Or since I never celebrated my birthday with soo soo many people ever?

# Or because of her?

Well, all of the above. I want to say thanks to my roomies – Aakash and Manoj, to Bammo, who’s my best friend in IIT, my wingmates, my hostelmates, my street play team, my seniors, to all those who accompanied me here and made me feel like home.

I want to say thanks to my friends in Bhopal. Some people are irreplacable.

I want to say thanks to her. I am glad she’s back.

I want to say thanks to everyone.

And last but not the least, I want to pay my deep regards to a person who is responsible for making this birthday more than special. Thanks Nitya, without you, this day would not have been so significant.

I am very happy when I write this post. Thanks All ! :)

***

PS — I am not allowed to write more, because I am too short of time. :(

PS — I regret I missed Exuberance – Aravali Cult. Fest! May be next year.

PS — I share my birthday with my roommate. Interesting!

PS — Tough time ahead…majors coming..!

PS – Song of the day – Tu Hi To Meri Dost Hai – Yuvvraj (A R Rahman)

PS — I miss home.

PS — Tchao!

My UNIQUE bro..!

I still remember the day he was born. The news spread quickly. Quicker than it should have. The reason was obvious for the kind of world we are living in. The reason was his being an ‘abnormal’ baby. I was quiet small at that time, so was a little confused about the whole senario. But now after so many years and so much experience I can manage to think about it, about the whole scenario he would have faced, about the thinking of everybody else and about what should be done. I wont say that I have a very very good relation with him. No! I don’t because I haven’t met him from so many years. But we have a good relation, as anybody else would like to have.

What does abnormality actually mean???

Going by the word it convey meaning “not normal”. But this ‘not normal’ thing is taken as something very bad, kind of a sin. WHY!!?

Just because a person is different from others he is bad? Even if its not his fault. Its human nature to resists a change, but it does not seem “human” when the change is a human himself.! I have seen many parents feeling very deppressed about their child if he/she is ‘abnormal’ and I proud to know atleast a couple who has been taking care of their child considering him UNIQUE and a gift from god.

But the point is the aren’t abnormal, but they are UNIQUE. They are different from the so called normal people. Why be normal if you can’t even accept the UNIQUENESS of others??!?

People won’t understand that the persons who have acheived something big were UNIQUE. They didn’t think normal. They never considered themselves in the so called ‘abnormal’ normal league and thats the only reason they succeeded.

There are many famous personalities who were not ‘normal’, but the world of the so called ‘normals’ should be grateful that they were born.

I don’t say that show sympathy towards the UNIQUE people, instead I say behave as one always does. Don’t make them beleive they are out of the league.

A blind person wouldn’t like if you tell him that you are sympathatic for him loosing his eyesight.!

Anyways, just to conclude,

think BIG, think DIFFERENT, think UNIQUE

IIT Punjab ~ An Unwoven Dream

# This post is dedicated to those people who believe that I cannot write on anything except girls. Although this post is a bit boring, but you must read it if you are concerned with it in any way.

It is said that great men have great visions or may be vice-versa. When Jawahar Lal Nehru established IITs in 1950s-60s, he had a vision, a vision of a scientifically and technically strengthened nation. The dream cherished and we got a highly prestigious and respected system of 7 technical institutions classified as the best in the world.

Then another man got a vision. This time the vision was not of a national interest but more of a political. He decided to repeat the history by establishing 8 new IITs. The man was Arjun Singh. The most interesting thing being he completed this convulating job in a few months. He established 6 new IITs in scratch without laying even a single brick. Some people call it miracle and I call it What the F!

So the most debatable question of all the times: “Is it justified?”

I will not try to answer that. Instead I would like to present my personal views on IIT Punjab which is mentored by my great college ~ Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. For the facts (as written in IIT Punjab official page):

IIT Punjab will be located at Roopnagar (formerly Ropar), along the bank of the Sutlej river, about 50 kms from Chandigarh. However, since the setting up of the new IIT in its final location will take some time, IIT Delhi has been requested to incubate the IIT Punjab”

Therefore, the 120 so-called ‘NewIITians’ are residing in IIT Delhi campus. Girls are provided accommodation in Himadri Hostel while boys live in IP Apartments.

Mainly, IIT Punjab is benefitted by having their ‘gestation period’ in IIT Delhi. But there are some cons of it also. First lets see how its benefited:

# SENIORS

I feel this is the most important factor. What makes a college culture? Is it infrastructure? Is it faculty? Is it the facility provided?

No.

Its the seniors.  They make the culture of the college. They tell you what’s a college life, how things work here and how they don’t. Of course it comes with the cost of a little ragging but that’s also justified if its within the limits.

Let me give you an example of IIT Patna which is not currently functional in any other existing IIT. They are not having seniors. My friend who’s studying there told me that it still feels like a school there.

IIT Delhi provides them a ’senior support’ for their transformation from a school-chick to a college-dude. Also, this will help them in becoming a good senior when they’ll return to their own place.

# SYSTEM

IITs are not colleges, they are IITs. Its the system of IITs which distinguish them. Of course these students, while living in IIT Delhi will learn the system of an IIT. They will realise the standard of this world class institution and also to how far they’ll have to work to make their new college, one.

# the IITD factor

What else, they are getting to stay for one year in IIT Delhi man, the dream place for lakhs of people. And this was the sole reason why people picked IIT Punjab over other new IITs in the JEE counseling. Some of them also hoped that construction of buildings at Punjab were delayed in case, (whose probability is still high considering the efficiency of Indian Govt.) then there’s a good chance that they’ll complete their B.Tech here only in Delhi.

These were the advantages. Now time for some cons:

# PRIDE

Its something else in studying at your own college whatever or however it may be. But these students realised this later.

# DETACHMENT

The students of IIT Punjab are kind of ignored or aloofed from the mainstream. They are not allowed in Inter-Hostel events which is a major blow for their college life. Moreover, their classes are held separately in MS completely apart from the IITD students. Most of the IITD students haven’t interacted with even a single IITP student. It gets them detached from the rest.

# DISCRIMINATION

May this not be the case, or they think like this way, but IITP students feel they are discriminated both by IIT Authorites and IITD students. As the matter of fact, IITD students have been provided mostly with air-conditioned classrooms and other excellent facilities, but IITP students don’t. As mentioned above, they are also being detached from the mainstream.

Moreover, there are cases of student-discrimination, especially in girls. Girls of IITP stay with IITD girls in Himadri. The condition is just like preparatory course students living with first-year students. I guess, this explains everything.

*

What do they feel about all this

I’ve asked a few IITPians this question and with no exception, all of them said they want to go to their own college. Its good its IIT Delhi, but its not theirs and that’s what really bothers them. Plus the above points of discrimination and detachment aggravate them.

*

What Do I Feel about IIT Punjab

Since we are having guests in our college, so this is surely a nice question to ask. Before answering this question, I’ve discussed the issue with some of my friends and seniors. But still whatever I write here should not be taken as a general opinion.

Mainly I don’t care if they are here. Since I never meet them, never interact with them, for me they don’t exist. Establishment of new IITs is a depressing decision for me. Don’t be mistaken, we are still talking about the famous Indian Institutes of Technology, which have made a mark for themselves all over the world as the strongest Indian brand. Fortune 500s, the Navratnas, the PSUs, the Scientists – you name it, they are there. And the government believes it can recreate the brand overnight, even without a single brick being laid? Without any external support? WITHOUT FACULTY?

I can safely say that the system teaches you much more outside the classroom than inside. So, all those dumbfucks in Delhi need to realise that just announcing the formation of IITs within their ignorant midst does not make the IITs, you’ve got to arrange infrastructure, faculty and facilities for them before you start.

*

FINAL COMMENT

Mainly, I feel sympathy for these ‘newIITians’. Also in particular, I really want IITD authorities to take measures to bring IITP students into  play. Although, their future is still in dilemma but don’t forget they are the IITians. The cream of the country. And that’s enough. The reputation of a college does not depend on its building, but the students studying there.

And for those who believe that the reputation of exisitng IITs have diluted because of them, I am sorry you are wrong. It is true that the top 2% in JEE is the cream. But its just a part of the cream. The cream can be denser.

If every student in the US, graduates out from a good university- not associating himself with this mad JEE kind of competition, and still be called a good graduate, why not most students from India?

Although its sad to see that politics have infilitrated into education too, but one thing that’s also true is that ‘every cloud has a silver lining’.

R2 ~ Dil Mill Gaye..!

The Reading room

The Reading room

# For those who don’t know, R2 or ‘Reading Room’ is a large hall in the Central Library of IIT Delhi which is 24 hours open for students.

The Reading Room concept was introduced by IIT authorities to encourage students to study more. I don’t know how far they’ve succeeded in this job, but the one thing I do know is that the students have put this R2 into a better use. Some people read books here, and some read faces…….faces of girls.

There are several reasons why I go R2.

1. Its air-conditioned.

2. Its having a Nescafe counter.

3. Girls.

Some of the most prominent observations I had in R2 are as follows:

# The amount of study done is inversely proportional to the number of girls present out here.

# The amount of frustration (or frustaapa, as by IIT lingo), is directly proportional to number of couples present.

Earlier, I hated to go R2. I mean whats the point of walking a kilometre from your hostel to study something you can do it in your room only. But gradually I realised why the place is so popular. Basically it acts as a bridge between farthely-separated girls and boys hostel. Although boys have to walk a bit more to reach here than girls, but then again its justified. Afterall, they are the girls ;)

Its also a meeting point of couples. They come with their books/laptops etc., sit for a while and try to study (which is impossible for both of them in presence of each other). And then when they fail badly, they sleep on each-others shoulders leaving the rest of the crowd to see them and envy.

There is also scope for those who are not having a ‘bandi’. Its really a great feeling to see a girl studying. I must say girls look really cute when they study. (I wish I could say the same for boys also. ) So, the funda is, you study and when you need a break, take your head out of your book and look around. After 5 minutes, you’ll be fully-refreshed and ready to start studying again.

R2 is also Wi-Fi enabled. So some people come here with their laptops. Since in R2 you cannot watch anything objectionable, therefore one can work here without any distractions (which normally occur when one is surfing internet in his room).

So friends, this is R2. Here the love inculcates, nourishes and reaches upto the extent of sleeping (of course on each other’s shoulders). I really doubt if R2 has produced some 9 pointers. But one thing thats sure is that it has been the favourite hangout for ‘5 point someone’ like me.

I had a lot of R2 for the last few days because of my minor exams. May be this was the reason I screwed all my papers. Still I am hopeful that one day I’ll visit R2 and will use the excellent facility provided by Indian Government for only studying. Although I doubt the day will come. ;)

PS — Minors ended. Trying to forget the nightmare.

PS — Hmm… ‘Rock On’ rocks man..(only if you watch it in a theatre having good sound)

PS — I’d sent a friend request to a girl of my branch on orkut, but she refused.

PS — So I sent it again and guess what, she again refused. :(

PS — One day I asked her the reason and she said, “Its because of your blog”.

PS — WTF!!

PS — Coming Bhopal. Yipee…!!

PS — Addicted to Kishore Kumar. He rocks.!

PS — Tchao :)

WAT TO DO IN A BORING sEMInAr

First of all let me tell you it isn’t a tutorial ….the title given is just to attract people :P to the post :P

Recently I went to a seminar regarding career and etc etc. organized by a private institute of Bhopal. All I can do was getting bored. Although they gave a pen and a notebook to make notes, but I wasn’t interested. Still because I went there I HAD to do something. AND I did something which is what I am going to share with you. I made some pictures of the seminar.

WARNING: Parental guidance suggested :P

this one was made at the start of the seminar…..i m not good at drawing so let me tell you the faces weren’t like ‘+’. :P

This one was made when the seminar was about to end ….let me tell u again …there were very less people left hence less people in the drawing :P

PS: Thank you reading the WARNING and still not complying with it :P

QUOTA SYSTEM -The division

The quota or the reservations is quiet popular in India now a days. What does it actually mean?? According to wikipedia quota means

Reservation in Indian law is a form of affirmative action whereby a percentage of seats are reserved in the public sector units, union and state civil services , union and state government departments and in all public and private educational institutions, except in the religious/ linguistic minority educational institutions, for the socially and educationally backward classes of citizens or the SC or ST who were inadequately represented in these services and institutions.

Caste is the factor mainly which is used as the basis of these reservations. We have SCs, STs, OBCs and then also the generals. Now here in the definition given by the wikipedia, its given “Backward classes”. The point of discussion is why were they considered the backward classes.

  • They were the ones who were not able to come up in the society because of the so called upper classes.
  • This also made them a weaker and also the poor section of the society

But as of now, this has changed, not everywhere in India, but most of the parts. The backward classes people are now coming up and becoming richer. This is something because of the quota system. But I found as a general you feel humiliated and also as an Indian you fell humiliated. As a general I don’t say don’t give quotas or finishing off quotas, but I think things should change much faster than they have. There are many flaws in the quota system, some of which I have tried to gather.

Flaws

  • First and the most important one, it divides us (Indians) into different castes, classes etc. etc. Is this what we want!!!
  • quotas are not in the primary education but are in the higher education. Now this ruins everything. The person who can get primary education has more chances to get secondary education. People who are living in the villages are not getting education. The children there are going straight to the farms at the age of schooling. They are the ones who are needed to be lifted up. Not the ones who are getting the primary education from a very respected school in big cities.
  • The quotas may benefit the SCs and STs to get admissions, but when it comes to job recruitment, the company don’t have quotas. So, only the better persons would get job. You may say this is fair enough, but what is the fault of the person without quota, who doesn’t even get admission.!
  • There are many poor people who fall under the general caste. But they don’t get the benefit.

I don’t say that SCs ,STs or OBCs are not poor or they don’t need quota. I say that there are still more poor people who fall under the reserved classes, but we can’t skip the ones who fall under general and are poor.

Also there are people who fall under general category but don’t get good colleges that they deserve.

Why are we dividing ourselves on the name of developing?? Why can’t we consider ourselves as one single nation?? Why can’t the person who deserves get what he deserves??

WHY THE HELL ARE WE CONSIDERING OURSELVES INTO CASTES???
